This ride starts at the old red brick pump house on the south end of the dam.
It loops the lake once, twice or three times depending on the riding ability of the driver. Very advanced riders are encouraged to start on the North end trail and ride to the starting point. This is a good intro rbent ride as the road is clearly marked out and there is no chance that you will get lost or not be able to make it back. For you old timers who never show up, there's plenty of wedgies on this route to play with.
This used to be a top-rated recumbent ride, but not any longer. However, it is conveniently located in the heart of Dallas. BEWARE. Use Caution. The bike/hike trail is too narrow for the joggers, roller bladers, hikers, and cyclists who use it. Recumbent cyclists, through no fault of their own, have had serious accidents here.
This ride can be started several places, including Garland Rd @ Old Gate in the parking lot next to Jack Johnston Bicycles. Follow Old Gate to the lake. Or start @ Lawther and Meadow Lake. The ride follows the 10-mile loop around the lake using the streets and/or bike/hike trail. You can extend your ride by riding the loop several times, or by following the White Rock Trail another 10 miles to its end near Coit Rd.

This ride starts at the Scenic Overlook / Corps of Engineers station located off FM1382 on the West side of the Dam. Go EXACTLY 2.3 miles south of I-20 on FM1382, then turn right. The entrance to the overlook is not marked. You won't know you've found it until you have made the turn off FM1382. Park either at the Engineering station lot or at the overlook loop parking lot.
Rides across the dam and into Mansfield, Arlington and Cedar Hill. There's an optional 3 mile 15% grade hill along the way for those feeling the need for a challenge. The rest of us will wait for you to come flying back down. There are 3 restroom facilities along the way, and a store in which to buy gatorade but the route is completely rural and stunning lake views abound!

The Friday Ride follows this route. It's an all-time favorite and, depending on how you feel, you can bike 20, 30, or 45 miles. The route takes you through Sunnyvale's rolling hills, along Lake Ray Hubbard, and up some hefty Mesquite hills and into Seagoville before you return.
The ride starts in the parking lot of the vacated Food Lion grocery store located at Galloway and Barnes Bridge Rd. Follow Barnes Bridge, cross Collins Rd, turn right onto Polly Rd, and left on Polly, which will become East Fork Rd. For a 20-miler, turn right at East Fork onto Tripp Rd and follow it to Jobson, cross Town East and turn right onto Del Norte which will take you to Barnes Bridge. Turn left on Barnes Bridge and return to the parking lot.
For 30-35 miles, turn left at East Fork and Tripp Rd and speed down a hill that will take you to hwy 80. Cross hwy 80 at the bridge and turn left onto the access road. Turn right onto Lawson Rd, right on Scyene and pedal past the Mesquite airport or stop at the airport for a rest, then continue on Scyene to Lucas Blvd and follow Lucas to the Texaco service station for refreshments and a rest. You can return to Barnes Bridge by retracing your ride, or by taking several routes to return. Check your map.
For the 45-miler, from the Texaco station, follow Lucas to Cartwright, turn left and go to Lawson Rd. Follow Lawson, cross I-20, turn left on Lasater, and right onto Stark Rd, then left on Seagoville Rd which will take you to several service stations at the intersection of Seagoville Rd and Beltline Rd. Take a rest. You deserve one. To return to Barnes Bridge, follow Beltline Rd, cross I-20 and at Lucas turn right, and this will take you back to the Texaco station. Follow your route back to Barnes Bridge. Or, use your imagination and take one of several streets that will take you back across hwy 80 and to Tripp Rd.

Sunday Morning, meet three or four old fellows on wedgies at the Gymnasium parking lot. These guys are retired and have been riding for years. They are curious about bents but so far haven't bought any. The ride takes you over very rural rolling countryside south of the metroplex. The halfway point is at Cleburne State Park for a rest stop at the park store by the fishing dock. Plenty of lake views, and a chance to ride "the cliff," which is a road in the park which you would swear is completely vertical for about 15 feet. It really isn't but you will swear it is. You will swear at it anyway. The old guys ride pretty fast but they will match your pace or loop back and pick you up if you fall behind. They are non-competitive and like to chat while riding. One of the high points of the ride is near the end, when you are about to return to the Gymnasium, you will pass right by an old folks' home. It is here that you realize that these old timers you have been riding with are older than some of the folks in the rest home. And as you pedal by, you don't have to wonder why these old men are out here riding while their contemporaries are inside confined to bed. Bent or wedgie, USCF racer or Saturday 10mph park-pedaller, we all ride for life.
